From Brick:
"I wanted to give everyone an update on what is
going on in Hourglass at this point in time. Our show
in Mexico was incredibly fun and we all had a great
time. Thanks to Leonel at perfectprog.com
for making it possible for us to do such an awesome
thing, and for taking such good care of us while we
were there. We met a lot of really great people, ate
some really great food, and had a great trip. A couple
of things I should mention about the show: First of
all Sam Doty was not our bass player there, and in fact
has not been in the band for a couple of months now.
He was not pulling his weight, not practicing, and overall
not the same bass player he used to be. I could go on
for a long time about our frustrations with him, but
the bottom line is he left, and we are glad that he
did. We have been fortunate enough to find an incredible
bassist to replace him, and we would like to welcome
Eric Blood into Hourglass as our new, and hopefully
long-term bassist. Eric is by far the most skilled player
we have ever had on bass, and has some excellent song-writing
skills, as well as lyric-writing skills. He has added
many good things to the rhythm section of the band,
and we are very glad to have him in Hourglass. His first
show with us on bass was in Mexico, so the fans down
there have already seen him in action. Some of you may
recognize his name from "The Journey Into" credits.
He wrote "The Circle Breaks" lyrics with me, and he
also wrote almost all of the melodies for that album.
So if you like singing along to any songs off "The Journey
Into," it is thanks to him. He was actually our singer
for a couple of months early on in Hourglass and did
a couple of shows with us then.
"Another thing I should mention about the show
in Mexico is that it was the last show for Eric Robertson.
Eric has left Hourglass to pursue some other musical
opportunities involving writing scores for movies. His
leaving is really poor timing and is a rather large
set back for us, but what can we do? It is a set back
in that so much of the next album was written, and now
we are left hanging with many parts that he was involved
in. I have known Eric since childhood and we have been
friends for many years so this is a tough loss for me
personally. Luckily we had another great keyboardist
that was ready and willing so I'd like to announce that
Jerry Stenquist is once again the keyboardist for Hourglass.
Most of you will obviously recognize Jerry's name since
he was our keyboardist on "The Journey Into" album.
Jerry wants a lot of involvement on the next album and
Eric Blood does as well, so we are re-writing a large
portion of the album so that these two new members of
the band can have some input into the final product.
We already have re-written Pawn 2 and it is a significant
improvement so things are exciting right now. I have
many fond memories of sitting around the music rooms
at the college Jerry and I attended together and writing
"The Journey Into" during breaks from our music classes.
I look forward to what his input will be on our next
album.
"I apologize to the fans who have to be patient
with us through all of this change. Things are moving
forward once again and we hope to have a new album out
some time in 2007."
From Eric Blood:
"I'm really excited with the stuff that we as
a band are playing & writing. This band really pushes
me to be a better bass player and musician. I think
that the new album that we're working on will turn out
to be the best album yet. The thing that I bring to
the band is more of a presence in the bass area, the
bass players that played in the band before I joined
have always been able to lay a good foundation in their
bass lines, and that's good cause that's the bass's
job. What I'm trying to do is just expand on what they've
already done, and put the bass on par with what the
other musicians are doing."
From Jerry Stenquist:
"Hey Hourglass Fans! It's rad being back in the
band. It's been 3 years since I've played with Hourglass,
and we are for sure better than we've ever been. Both
Brick and John have significantly improved musically
since then, and I hope I have too. Eric is a great new
addition that will greatly change the sound of Hourglass.
Consequential to the new line up, we're writing music
that sounds like nothing I've ever heard before. Playing
with Brick, John, and Eric is not only really fun but
technically demanding. It is humbling to be playing
with such great musicians. Since we are spending a lot
of time making our new material as melodic/progressive/technical
as possible, it requires a lot of stretching for me.
Wait to hear the new stuff coming out, it is amazing.
You will not be disappointed, I promise."
From Eric Robertson:
"Although it was a difficult decision, I have
decided to leave the band to pursue other interests
that I feel will be more beneficial to me. I will be
working on solo music, and with some production companies
writing and recording music for different media projects.
"Brick and I have been playing music together
since I was fifteen, so this will be a big change. Hourglass
is a great band and will continue to make amazing music.
Thanks to all of the fans who continue to support the
band."
